I say you should research other European cities.
However, if this is an actually decision, and another city isn’t an option, go to Venice! You can become like a local, and maybe be a mask maker. Or perhaps you will own a small hotel on one of the side canals.

It would be amazing to go to bed listening to the gondola driver’s row through the canals singing “ohy†when going around a turn.
